Karen has worked in all non-performing areas of the Theatre from the ground up - from painting the floor at The Roundabout Theatre in New York to building sets and hanging lights. She was a stage manager at theatres in New York, Boston and San Francisco before producing her first show, the first out-of-town production of Eve Merriam's, The Club, in Boston. Karen took The All Night Strut! ® from its Cleveland beginnings to Boston, Toronto, San Francisco and New York and wrote the radio jingles for the show, which garnered her a CLIO nomination. For Sloane Kasell H/E Productions, Karen co-produced ABC TV’s clay-animated program separators as well as writing and directing promos for PBS’ Great Performances and corporate clients. Karen co-wrote three songs for ABC’s After School Special, It’s Only Rock & Roll and was the program’s Music and Associate Producer. She was fortunate to have been able to hire Margaret Dorn to sing the leads on the show, after which they began the collaboration that has led to Women of a Certain Age®. Karen is a member of the Dramatists Guild, BMI and the Portland Songwriters Association. She is featured, along with more than 2,000 of her sisters, in the new book, Feminists Who Changed America, 1963-1975, edited by Barbara Love and published by The University of Illinois Press. |
